Corporate activism for progressive causes has become so common, that it is now news when social justice warrior CEOs don’t sign joint letters that demand government to address their latest outrage.
That’s the case following the recent mass shootings in the Texas cities of El Paso and Odessa, and in Dayton, Ohio. As part of the usual outcry for more gun control legislation after such incidents, several companies co-signed an open letter addressed to U.S. Senators asking them to address the “public health crisis that demands urgent action.”
The major technology companies of left-leaning Silicon Valley regularly participate in such initiatives, and some smaller ones did join this effort, including the top executives at Airbnb, Lyft, Reddit, Twitter, Uber and Yelp.

The trend for corporations to use their leverage to exert influence on divisive public policies escalated last week, with the potential of driving off a significant segment of their customer and investor base, in the name of self-styled “corporate social responsibility.”
In the higher-profile examples, tech-entertainment studios Disney, Netflix, WarnerMedia and a few others threatened to remove productions from the state of Georgia, because of a recently-passed pro-life law that prevents the abortion of any unborn child in which a heartbeat has been detected.
In another example, business software giant Salesforce announced it would not allow businesses that use its product to sell certain types of guns.

Now we have another reason why corporations should welcome – and even seek – ideological diversity among their employees.
Because now the workers are telling their bosses who they can and cannot do business with.
In this case it is a number of companies in the largely leftist Silicon Valley tech industry, where many of the rank-and-file – who have been encouraged to speak their minds (if they are liberal, that is) – are complaining that the fruits of their labor benefit what they view as the odious U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and yes, the despicable Trump administration.

Legislators and a governor in yet another state are contemplating laws to protect privacy rights in public restrooms according to biological gender (rather than “sexual identity” or “gender fluidity”) – and once again Silicon Valley tycoons are banding together to oppose it.
This time it’s Texas, about as red a Red State as there is, so unlike battleground North Carolina last year, there is no hope for these liberal plutocrats to oust the Republican governor. But that didn’t stop several tech leaders from collaborating on a letter to the Lone Star State’s Gov. Greg Abbott to lecture him and lawmakers about any law that would “discriminate” against LGBTs. Once again, as in previous instances with Indiana and North Carolina, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff drove the effort.
