China Recognizes Homosexuality as a Disorder, Will NBA Now Boycott?

Adam Silver

An appeals court in China has upheld an earlier decision supporting a publisher’s psychology textbook, used by several Chinese universities, which characterized homosexuality as a “psychological disorder.”

Let’s see if the National Basketball Association will apply the same “moral” standards to China as it does to jurisdictions in America.

After all, the league joined a major corporate assault on North Carolina in 2016 after the passage of HB2 – perhaps the most well known state legislative bill number in American history – also identified as the “transgender bathroom law.” It prohibited local governments from enacting ordinances that forced private businesses to accommodate so-called “transgenders,” to allow them to use their sex-specific facilities based on their gender identity, rather than their biological gender. HB2 also required individuals to use public, government-owned facilities, based on whether they are biological males or females – in other words, according to actual science.… Read More ➡

Biden Won’t Listen to His Own Experts on Confucius Institutes

In a surprise from what has otherwise been a soft-on-China President Joe Biden, his nominee for CIA director last week outlined the dangers to the United States from its Asian adversary, and called for the closures of educational centers at American universities that are funded and controlled by the communist government.

The strong comments came from William Burns, a former diplomat to Russia who testified in his confirmation hearing that he considered the presence of Confucius Institutes – which remain at several dozen U.S. colleges and in a few K-12 classrooms – a threat to the country.

“I think what the Confucius Institutes do, and I’m no expert on them, is to promote a narrative of Xi Jinping’s China, which is designed to build sympathy for what is, in my view, a quite aggressive leadership, which is engaged in conduct and conducted an adversarial approach … Read More ➡

Will BlackRock Thwart Progress on China Human Rights?

BlackRock, the world’s biggest money manager, has successfully placed executives from its own ranks in key positions on President Joe Biden’s economic team.

Considering the firm’s clear emphasis on progressive policies in investment decisions – called Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) – it doesn’t surprise that its alumni would be among the economic decision-makers at the White House.

The BlackRock veterans are:

  • Mike Pyle, who will be Vice President Kamala Harris’s chief economic adviser. He was BlackRock’s Global Chief Investment Strategist after a stint in the Obama administration.
  • Brian Deese, who will be director of the National Economic Council. He was previously deputy director and also a senior advisor to Obama. For BlackRock, he was global head of sustainable investing.
  • Adewale “Wally” Adeyemo, who will be deputy secretary of the Treasury Department, if he is confirmed by the Senate. He was Obama’s senior

As reports increased this year that China has greatly expanded its facilities that detain and utilize Uighurs as slave labor, new evidence indicates a key supplier for Apple Inc. is using transferred workers from among the Muslim minority ethnic group.

In an article published Tuesday by the Washington Post, the Tech Transparency Project revealed documents that indicate the Chinese government is transporting involuntary laborers from the region of Xinjiang – where Uighurs have been reportedly abused and undergo “re-education” to learn fealty to the communists – to a Lens Technology factory in Hunan, in central China.

The company has long manufactured cover glass for Apple’s iPhone.

Tech Transparency Project, a left-leaning nonprofit watchdog of the major Silicon Valley technology companies, based its findings in part on evidence deciphered from propaganda in Chinese media. Darren Byler, a research anthropologist … Read More ➡

NBA Promotes BLM While Remaining Silent on Chinese Communists

Josh Hawley/IMAGE: C-SPAN via YouTube

The open letter on Friday by Republican Sen. Josh Hawley, to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, exposed the hypocritical worldview of the leftists in the league and in the media.

That will likely be the best result, rather than seeing the Missouri Senator’s missive produce any meaningful change in how the league manages itself.

Hawley called out Silver and the NBA over its decision to permit its players – more than 80 percent of whom are black – to replace the names on the backs of their jerseys with messaging that for the most part fits the term “social justice.” That is, players can opine just as long as they don’t advocate for the welfare of police officers. Or for victims of Chinese oppression.

The NBA limited the messages players could display to a handful. Needless to say, none expressed support for anything other than … Read More ➡

Youthful Socialists Ignore Inevitability of Corruption

It is one of modern history’s more famous quotes: “If a man is not a socialist at 20, he has no heart. If he remains one at age 40, he has no head.” These words (and variations thereof) have been attributed to everyone from Disraeli to Clemenceau to Churchill. Whatever the true source, they convey a wisdom that frequently is going unheeded in America. And we risk becoming an ever more controlled and corrupt society.

Consider recent survey data.

This January, the public relations firm Axios released the results of a SurveyMonkey online poll of nearly 2,800 U.S. adults. Respondents were asked how they felt about capitalism and socialism. Capitalism produced a favorable response among 61 percent of all respondents, yet socialism was well-received among a sizable 39 percent. Fully 58 percent of persons ages 18-24 and 51 percent of persons ages 25-34 viewed socialism in a positive light; a … Read More ➡
