Statement of Paul Kamenar, NLPC Counsel:
Special Counsel Jack Smith filed motions today to dismiss the two cases he has pending against President Donald Trump, the one in D.C. regarding election interference and the one in Florida regarding the handling of classified documents.
As NLPC predicted, Smith saw the writing on the wall that these cases would be dismissed by the new Attorney General once Trump took office in January, 2025 and that Smith would be fired.
However, he did not ask the court to dismiss the case against Trump’s co-defendants in the Mar-a-Lago case, but the dismissal against them is a foregone conclusion: Trump’s new Attorney General will dismiss the case against them and for good measure, Trump will pardon them lest the case be revived by another president.
