Soros, Gaspard, and Mamdani: Astroturfing Socialism And Calling It A Grassroots Movement

The media wants you to believe Zohran Mamdani is a fresh face in politics — a 33-year-old “working-class hero” taking on the billionaires, defending the oppressed, and shaking up the system.

But scratch just beneath the surface of his “new and exciting” campaign for New York City mayor, and a very old playbook comes into view — one filled with elite handlers, Soros money, and Obama-era operatives.

The Soros-Gaspard Connection

It’s now clear that Mamdani’s campaign was guided behind the scenes by Patrick Gaspard — a longtime Democratic operative and former president of George Soros’s Open Society Foundations.

Yes, that Soros. And yes, that Gaspard.

Despite early reports from The New York Times framing Gaspard as a neutral observer — merely “offering advice” to multiple candidates — a post-primary confession from the same paper revealed the truth: Gaspard “quietly helped guide Mr. Mamdani” and was instrumental in a critical pre-election dinner strategy meeting that led to a major cross-endorsement deal with New York Comptroller Brad Lander.

What the Times failed to mention? Gaspard didn’t just advise mayors and presidents. He was the president of Soros’s $5.9 billion Open Society network, taking home over $2.2 million in 2021 alone. His social media profile still proudly reads: “Forever @OpenSociety.”

So while Mamdani’s campaign railed against billionaires, his top adviser was literally on Soros’s payroll.

From “Neutral” Adviser to Puppet Master

This wouldn’t be the first time Gaspard feigned neutrality while helping tip the scales. During the 2008 election, he claimed to be undecided — while quietly working behind the scenes for Barack Obama and against Hillary Clinton.

The pattern repeats: downplay your influence, inflate your credibility, and then cash in once your candidate wins.

Anti-Israel, Pro-Iran Rhetoric

Gaspard’s fingerprints don’t stop at political strategy. His online footprint offers a crystal-clear view of his worldview — one deeply aligned with the radical left and openly hostile to Israel and U.S. foreign policy.

  • June 21: “This launch into Netanyahu’s war is reckless and should be fiercely opposed.”

  • June 18: “If you’re not starting the day with full-throated opposition to any U.S. military support for Israel’s attack on Iran… you’re doing it all wrong.”

  • June 17: “Israel assisted apartheid South Africa in building a nuclear arsenal.”

  • June 12: “Netanyahu checked every single box of war crimes… Americans are now less safe.”

This is the man advising Zohran Mamdani — a candidate who himself refuses to condemn the slogan “globalize the intifada”, has threatened to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he sets foot in New York, and who calls ICE a “terror organization.”

Nothing New Under the Sun

To anyone familiar with Democratic machine politics, Mamdani’s rise is no surprise. It’s Obama 2.0 — a slick, young, foreign-born progressive with elite handlers, vague policy promises, and a carefully crafted media image. His charisma cloaks a hard-left agenda and deep institutional backing.

It’s also a retread of the Jesse Jackson playbook — race-based rhetoric, class warfare, and inflammatory attacks on Israel couched in “justice” language. Jackson had “Hymietown.” Mamdani has “globalize the intifada.”

What’s new? Just the name on the poster.

Media Complicity: The Times Knew

And as always, The New York Times helped run cover.

Before the primary, Gaspard was described as a neutral “adviser to mayors and presidents.” After the votes were counted, he was revealed as a key figure shaping the Mamdani strategy — a man helping to broker alliances and plot the takedown of Andrew Cuomo from the shadows.

The timing wasn’t an accident. It was a strategy.
