National Legal and Policy Center has filed a complaint against Florida Senate candidate Angie Nixon with the Senate Ethics Committee and the U.S. Attorney for Northern Florida for filing false financial disclosure statements.

The complaint filed by NLPC counsel Paul Kamenar, was prompted by Nixon’s failure to disclose IRS and student loan debts on her Senate candidate financial disclosure report filed on August 31, 2026, first reported by Andrew Kerr in the Washington Free Beacon. Indeed, she has publicly complained about having to pay back taxes and declared that she won’t repay her student loans. She wrote on Facebook, “Dear Student Loans. It’s above me now. I don’t wanna pay it back. Education is supposed to be free.”
“It’s clear that Nixon’s failure to list the two liabilities was no mere oversight but constitutes a knowing and willful filing of false financial disclosure reports,” according to the complaint, adding that NLPC “demands prompt civil and criminal enforcement against Angie Nixon for her flagrant violations of the Ethics in Government Act’s financial disclosure requirements.”
Nixon is running against Republican Senator Ashley Moody, former Attorney General of Florida, in the November 3 general election, after she won the Democratic primary in a surprise upset over Alex Vindman. Moody was appointed to the seat in 2025 after Marco Rubio resigned to become Secretary of State.
Nixon, currently a Florida state representative, is the first member of the Democratic Socialists of America to be nominated by a major party for a statewide office.
