AOC’s ‘Tax the Rich’ Dress Draws Ethics Complaint

NLPC filed a Complaint today with the Office of Congressional Ethics against Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) for accepting impermissible gifts by attending the exclusive “Met Gala” on Monday at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

AOC made a media splash at the $35,000 per ticket event by wearing a custom-made designer white gown with the words ‘Tax the Rich’ in red on the bodice of the gown.

NLPC also alleged that AOC illegally accepted a free ticket for herself, her boyfriend, and other in-kind gifts such as the loan of the designer gown, limousine service, the use of the expensive Carlyle Hotel, professional hair and makeup services, jewelry, and other goods and services.

“The House has very strict gift rules that AOC apparently ignored as she mingled with the Gala’s star-studded attendees, hypocritically ignoring the mask mandate required for the event,” said Paul Kamenar, counsel for NLPC who drafted and filed NLPC’s Complaint.
