Omar Amends Filings to Show She is Not Wealthy; Her Excuse is ‘Laughable’

In apparent response to NLPC’s February 16 complaint against Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), she has amended her financial disclosure report to show what we suspected all along, that her husband Tim Mynett is not successful in his businesses, and that the couple is not worth $6 to 30 million.

The NLPC complaint was filed with the Office of Congressional Conduct (OCC) and the Justice Department. Omar’s amendment was filed after she received a letter from OCC, according to the Wall Street Journal, which first reported the story. The amendment shows the couple’s assets to be between $18,000 and $95,000.

From the Journal:

Aides said that Omar looked at the form before it was filed in 2025, but that the error didn’t jump off the page for her because she isn’t involved with her husband’s businesses and she trusted the accuracy of the accountant who provided her husband’s figures.

NLPC Counsel Paul Kamenar, who drafted the complaint, reacted by saying, “Her excuse that the glaring discrepancy ‘didn’t jump off the page’ when she reviewed and signed the original submission under oath is laughable. NLPC will continue to press for penalties to be imposed for this reckless and illegal conduct.”

In the complaint, Kamenar asserted that Omar exhibited “profound stupidity” by not understanding the difference between assets and income.
