On the heels of an annual meeting in which it was called to account by two investor organizations – including National Legal and Policy Center – for its antagonism against conservatives and libertarians, Google has been further exposed, for efforts to prevent President Donald Trump’s reelection and to maintain all the power it wields in order to accomplish it.
Project Veritas, the undercover investigative nonprofit led by James O’Keefe, learned of the effort from an unidentified Google insider who divulged the leftist company’s intentions for the 2020 campaign. In addition to an extensive interview with the whistleblower, Veritas obtained lengthy and detailed footage of top executive Jen Gennai, the tech giant’s Head of Responsible Innovation, who unknowingly explained Google’s strategy for the next election cycle.
As Veritas reported, Gennai said Google’s aim is to avoid a repeat of the election results of 2 ½ years ago.
“We all got screwed over in 2016, again it wasn’t just us, it was, the people got screwed over, the news media got screwed over, like, everybody got screwed over so we’re rapidly been like, what happened there and how do we prevent it from happening again,” Gennai said in the video captured by Veritas. “We’re also training our algorithms, like, if 2016 happened again, would we have, would the outcome be different?”
An informant (it is unclear if it is the same insider interviewed in the video report) also provided Veritas with documents that revealed how Google uses “machine learning fairness” through artificial intelligence to achieve its political agenda. One example provided showed how routine searches on topics provide auto-complete options to drive Internet surfers to Google’s desired ideological worldview.
Another area where Google executes its “machine learning” is in training its algorithms to favor certain results in its news search to “down-rank” conservative sources in favor of those it views as unbiased or establishing a “single point of truth,” in the name of “combat(ting) misinformation” and “mitigat(ing) risk of low-quality sources.” This has been confirmed over and over again, most recently last month in research conducted by the Computational Journalism Lab at Northwestern University, which found that the vast majority of Google’s top news search results favor extremely left-bias sources such as CNN and the New York Times.
Veritas also uncovered similar “machine learning” algorithm jiggering with regard to YouTube, which Google owns. It has previously been reported that conservatives like PragerU and Steven Crowder have seen their videos either down-ranked in search or demonetized (meaning they can’t earn revenues through advertising) or both.
“Google is targeting what they consider rightwing news commentators so that includes Tim Pool, Dave Rubin, Steven Crowder, and a host of other right wing people that they are coming in and they’re deciding that they don’t want these opinions to have a wide appeal,” the anonymous insider told Veritas (as reported by Breitbart). “And so they’re coming in and they’re putting their thumb down, and they’re deciding which content the users are allowed to see. They’re playing narrative control.”
In Congressional testimony in December, CEO Sundar Pichai emphatically denied that Google operates with – or taints its products and services with – any prejudice.
“I lead this company without political bias and work to ensure that our products continue to operate that way. To do otherwise would go against our core principles and our business interests…,” Pichai said. “Our algorithms have no notion of political sentiment.”
That claim was belied in April when the conservative Heritage Foundation’s African-American President, Kay Cole James, was the target of hue and cry from a couple thousand outraged Google employees, after she was asked to serve on the company’s artificial intelligence advisory panel. The project was quickly scuttled following the mob’s indignation.
“They called me anti-immigrant and anti-LGBTQ and a bigot,” James explained in a Washington Post op-ed following the incident. “That was an odd one, because I’m a 69-year-old black woman who grew up fighting segregation.”
And showing the conservative antipathy goes all the way to the top, Google rejected a shareholder proposal by the National Center for Public Policy Research’s Free Enterprise Project that called for viewpoint diversity on its board of directors, a majority of which is controlled by liberal co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page. The proposal was shot down immediately, as Google can’t abide even a single conservative on its board or on any special initiatives it undertakes.
“Shame on Google and every single person involved in ending the A.I. board and giving in to this mob,” said Justin Danhof, director of the Free Enterprise Project, at the annual meeting last week. “The company’s intolerance is staggering.”
Peter Flaherty, president of National Legal and Policy Center, also called Google to account at the annual meeting, where he presented a shareholder proposal to address the company’s sexual harassment problems – which was also rejected.
“[Google] is governed by what the Left-wing mob demands,” he said. “Alphabet (Google’s parent company) will only support initiatives that advance an agenda.”
And now whistleblowers have exposed the full-blown strategy for 2020: win at all costs using the powerful force of its technology, which it desperately wants to preserve. Gennai unwittingly explained on video that efforts to break up Google, as Sen. Elizabeth Warren has proposed, are “misguided” because any lesser entity won’t be able to “prevent the next Trump situation.”
Confirming what most conservatives and libertarians already suspect, the anonymous Google insider told Project Veritas, “They are a highly biased political machine that is bent on never letting somebody like Donald Trump come to power again.”
