Virginia Steelworkers Local Secretary Pleads Guilty

On November 9, Elizabeth George, formerly recording secretary of United Steelworkers Local 9336, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia to embezzlement and making false entries in financial records of the Radford-based union. She also agreed to make restitution in the amount of $4,275.56. Ms. George will remain incarcerated until her January 28 sentencing, as she is a flight risk; she spent eight years on the lam avoiding capture. The guilty plea follows a joint probe by the Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards and Office of Inspector General.
