AFGE Local Official in Massachusetts Pleads Guilty to Theft

AFGE logoOn November 18, Stanley Barringer, former vice president and acting treasurer of American Federation of Government Employees Local 3707 in Chicopee, Mass., pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts to falsifying union records in order to conceal his embezzlement of about $22,180 in union funds. He had been charged 10 days earlier. Federal prosecutors alleged that Barringer, 65, a resident of Springfield, Mass., during March 13, 2003-July 2, 2007 knowingly inserted false data in annual union financial reports to the U.S. Department of Labor. The union represents civilian federal employees at Westover Joint Air Reserve Base, located in the Springfield area. The charge and guilty plea follow an investigation by DOL’s Office of Labor-Management Standards.
