AFGE Local President in Virginia Sentenced for Embezzlement

AFGE logoOn October 15, Richard James, former president of American Federation of Government Employees Local 1402, was sentenced in Arlington County, Virginia Circuit Court to two years in prison (suspended), two years supervised probation and 75 hours of community service for embezzling $9,850 from the Arlington union. James, who was charged in May and pleaded guilty in July, previously had made full in restitution. The actions follow a probe by the Labor Department's Office of Labor-Management Standards.

Northern Virginia Federal Employees Ex-Local President Charged

On May 18, Richard James, former president of American Federation of Government Employees Local 1402, was charged in General District Court for Arlington County, Virginia with embezzling $1,550 in union funds. The charge follows a probe by the Labor Department's Office of Labor-Management Standards.
