Postal Workers Treasurer in Louisiana Sentenced

Postal Workers logoOn April 1, David Matthis, former secretary-treasurer of American Postal Workers Union Local 205, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana to three years of probation and 200 hours of community service for embezzlement of $5,472.61 from the Alexandria union. He pled guilty in December. In addition to serving his sentence, Matthis will have to pay restitution in the amount of $7,222.57, a fine of $7,000 and a special assessment of $100. The sentencing follows a probe by the U.S. Labor Department's Office of Labor-Management Standards.

Postal Workers logoOn December 17, David Matthis, former secretary-treasurer of American Postal Workers Union Local 205 in Alexandria, La., pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana to embezzling $5,472.61 from the union. He had been charged with one information count in November. The guilty plea follows a probe by the Labor Department's Office of Labor-Department Standards.

Postal Workers logoOn November 23, David Matthis, former secretary-treasurer of Local 205 of the American Postal Workers Union, was charged in an information count in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana with one count of embezzling funds from the Alexandria union during August 2006-October 2007. The charge follows an investigation by the U.S. Labor Department's Office of Labor-Management Standards.
