Steelworkers Headquarters Staff Representative Sentenced

Steelworkers logoOn January 24, Curtis Reed, former staff representative for the United Steelworkers at the union's Pittsburgh headquarters, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania to eight months in prison for embezzling $3,694.32 in union funds. He had pleaded guilty last September after being indicted seven months earlier with another former staff representative, Robert Misuraca. Reed already has paid full restitution. The actions follow a probe by the Labor Department's Office of Labor-Management Standards.

He and Robert Misuraca, at the time another headquarters staffer, had been indicted in February. The actions follow a probe by the U.S. Labor Department's Office of Labor-Management Standards.

Steelworkers Headquarters Ex-Staffers Charged with Embezzlement

Steelworkers logoOn February 7, two former staff representatives at the United Steelworkers' national office in Pittsburgh were indicted in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania for embezzling union funds. One defendant, Robert Misuraca, now an official with United Steelworkers Local 1000 in Corning, N.Y., allegedly stole $17,566.21.  The other defendant, Curtis Reed, allegedly stole $3,694.32. The charges follow a probe by the U.S. Labor Department's Office of Labor-Management Standards.
