Financial Secretary of South Carolina Steelworkers Local Sentenced

Steelworkers logoChristina Geathers probably hasn't endeared herself to rank and file with United Steelworkers of America Local 357. That's because much of her income represented stolen dues. Geathers, formerly local financial secretary-treasurer with the Georgetown, South Carolina union, was sentenced on March 8 in U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina to time served to be followed by three years of supervised release, of which 16 months must be served in home confinement. She also will have to pay restitution.

Steelworkers Financial Secretary in South Carolina Pleads Guilty

Steelworkers logoOn August 11, Christina Geathers, former financial secretary of United Steelworkers of America Local 357 in Georgetown, South Carolina, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina to one count of embezzling union funds in the amount of $36,865.18. The guilty plea follows an investigation by the Labor Department's Office of Labor-Management Standards.

South Carolina Secretary Pleads Guilty to Theft, Records Fraud

On February 11, Christina Geathers, former financial secretary-treasurer of Local 357 of the United Steelworkers of America in Georgetown, S.C., was indicted in federal court on one count of embezzling union funds totaling $36,865 and two counts of filing false reports with the U.S. Department of Labor.
