Army Base Local President in Missouri Sentenced for Thefts

SEIU logoOn June 6, Garold Lawson, former president of National Association of Government Employees (NAGE) Local R14-139, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri to six months confinement, four months home confinement and three years probation for embezzling $67,566 in union funds. He had pleaded guilty in January. The local represents several hundred employees of E.D.P. Enterprises, a food service contractor for Fort Leonard Wood Army Base in central Missouri. NAGE is affiliated with the Service Employees International Union. The sentencing follows an investigation by the U.S. Labor Department's Office of Labor-Management Standards.

Lawson, formerly president of National Association of Government Employees (NAGE, an affiliate of the Service Employees International Union) Local R14-139, pleaded guilty on January 6 in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri after being charged with embezzling at least $67,566 from the union, which represents several hundred employees of E.D.P. Enterprises, a food services contractor for Fort Leonard Wood Army Base.

Former President of Boston-Area Government Employees Local Admits to Larceny

SEIU logoOn November 17, Joseph Morana, former president of National Association of Government Employees (NAGE) Local 01-86, admitted in District Court of Brockton, Massachusetts to a finding of sufficient facts to the charge of larceny. He was ordered to serve up to two years of supervised probation, and to pay $7,696.48 in restitution to the West Roxbury union plus a special assessment of $90. NAGE is an affiliate of the Service Employees International Union. Admitting to a "finding of facts" amounts to a guilty plea, though without using the word "guilty." The action follows an investigation by the U.S. Labor Department's Office of Labor-Management Standards.
