Seattle Glass Workers Financial Secretary Sentenced for Theft

GMP logoOn February 24, Poutoa Tuiolemotu, former financial secretary of Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics and Allied Workers International Union Local 50, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington to one year of probation and 90 days of home confinement for embezzling funds from the Seattle union. He also was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $17,250. Tuiolemotu had pleaded guilty in December 2010. The actions follow an investigation by the U.S. Labor Department's Office of Labor-Management Standards.

Glass Workers Financial Secretary in Indiana Pleads Guilty; Sentenced

Glass workerOn December 14, Rodney Richerson, former financial secretary of Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics and Allied Workers International Workers Local 238, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana to embezzling $100,195 from the Kokomo union. He then was sentenced to four months incarceration, eight months home detention and two years supervised release. He also will have to pay full restitution plus a $100 special assessment. Richerson had been charged last April. The actions follow an investigation by the Labor Department's Office of Labor-Management Standards.

GMP logoOn April 28, Rodney Richerson, former financial secretary of Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastic and Allied Workers International Union Local 238, was charged in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana with one count of embezzling $100,195 from the Kokomo union. The charge follows a probe by the U.S. Labor Department's Office of Labor-Management Standards.

Former Glass Workers President in Florida Sentenced

Glass Workers (GMP)  On February 2, Karl Youngerman, former president of Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics & Allied Workers International Union Local 208, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida to five years probation for conspiracy to embezzle funds from the Bradenton union in the amount of $18,218.91. He also was ordered to pay restitution in that amount to Fidelity and Deposit Company of Maryland. Youngerman had pleaded guilty in November. The guilty plea and sentencing follow an investigation by the Labor Department's Office of Labor-Management Standards.

Seattle Glass Molders Treasurer Charged with Embezzlement

Glass workers logoOn December 10, Poutoa Tuiolemotu, former treasurer of Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics and Allied Workers International Union Local 50, was charged in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington with embezzling an unspecified amount of funds from the Seattle local. The charge follows an investigation by the U.S. Labor Department's Office of Labor-Management Standards.

Central Florida Glass Workers President Pleads Guilty

Glass Workers logoOn November 5, 2010, Karl Youngerman, former president of Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics & Allied Workers International Union Local 208, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida to conspiracy to embezzle funds from the Bradenton union. He agreed to pay restitution in the amount of $18,218.91 to Zurich North America. Sentencing is scheduled for January 27. Youngerman is the last of the three defendants to face justice in this case. Last September 28, Anthony Green and Woodrow Anderson, respectively, the former vice president and treasurer of the local, each received a prison sentence of two years, plus 180 days of home confinement, and were ordered to make restitution. The actions follow a probe by the Labor Department's Office of Labor-Management Standards.

Glass Workers Treasurer in Northern California Sentenced for Embezzlement

Glass Workers (GMP) logoOn October 29, Curtis Iwatsubo, former secretary-treasurer of Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics and Allied Workers International Union Local 52, was sentenced in San Jose federal court to 10 months in prison for embezzling more than $48,000 in union funds and was ordered to pay $38,434 in restitution plus a $100 special assessment. Iwatsubo, now 36, in his guilty plea in May of this year admitted that during January-November 2005 he had used his union debit card to make more than 80 unauthorized ATM cash withdrawals totaling more than $47,000. He also admitted to using the card to making an unauthorized $800 payment to an American Express charge card and making false entries on union records to conceal the thefts. The local represents more than 200 workers at the Owens-Corning plant in Santa Clara. The guilty plea and sentencing follow a probe by the U.S. Labor Department's Office of Labor-Management Standards.

He was ordered to pay restitution to Zurich North America in the amount of $3,073.10 plus a $25 assessment. Green had pleaded guilty in July. The guilty plea and sentencing follow a probe by the Labor Department's Office of Labor-Management Standards.

Glass Workers Local Treasurer in Florida Pleads Guilty

Glass workers logoOn July 1, Woodrow Anderson, former treasurer of Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics & Allied Workers International Union Local 208, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida to making a false statement of material fact in a financial statement. He was ordered to pay restitution of $2,249.96 to Zurich North America. The union is based in Bradenton. The guilty plea follows an investigation by the U.S. Labor Department's Office of Labor-Management Standards.

Northern California Glass Workers Treasurer Pleads Guilty to Theft

Glass Workers logoOn May 10, Curtis Iwatsubo, former financial secretary-treasurer of Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics and Allied Workers International Union Local 52, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California to one count of embezzling funds from the Santa Clara local in the amount of $48,434.50. He had been charged in March after having made more than 80 unauthorized withdrawals with his union ATM card and subsequently concealing the thefts on union financial statements. The guilty plea follows an investigation by the U.S. Labor Department's Office of Labor-Management Standards.
