Transport Workers President in Chicago Sentenced

transport-workers-logo_0On July 21, Simiel Campbell, former president of Transport Workers Union Local 2014, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois to three years of probation for making false statements in financial reporting forms of the Chicago-based union. He also was ordered to pay $11,700 in restitution and a $25 special assessment, plus serve 80 hours of community service. Campbell pleaded guilty this March after being indicted in December 2013 for embezzling $19,433 in union funds. The actions follow a probe by the U.S. Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards.
