Texas Secretary-Treasurer Sentenced for False Record-Keeping
On September 20, Jose Ocasio, formerly secretary-treasurer for Branch 404 of the National Association of Letter Carriers, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas to two years probation and 240 hours of community service for making false entries in union financial records. Secretary of Denver Local Indicted for Embezzlement
On September 24, Paula Adair-Butts, former officer secretary for Operative Plasterers & Cement Masons International Association Local 577, was indicted in U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado on four counts of embezzling union funds in the amount of $28,480.96. (OLMS, 9/29/07).
President of Oregon Union Sentenced for Falsifying Records
On September 17, Marlene Watson, formerly president of the Association of Field Representatives, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon to 12 months of probation for falsifying information on the union’s annual financial report to the U.S. Labor Department. Watson, indicted back in April, had made restitution in the amount of $9,030 by the time of sentencing. (OLMS, 9/29/07).
Secretary-Treasurer in Texas Sentenced for Records Destruction
On September 20, James Douglas, former secretary-treasurer for Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics & Allied Workers International Union Local 220, was sentenced to two years probation and 240 hours of community service for concealing, holding and destroying union records.
